Abd al-Aziz al-Mohammedawi, the chief-of-staff of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), said on Friday the PMF was waiting for a “mandate” from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei on how to respond to an Israeli strike that hit the Iranian embassy’s consular annex in Damascus, the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) said.

Mohammedawi, also known as Abu Fadak, spoke at a mass rally in Tehran for International Quds Day in solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing siege in Gaza.

“Definitely what is unfolding today among all the groups of the Axis of Resistance in Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine, as well as the Islamic Republic of Iran is the declaration of Israel’s decline,” Abu Fadak said, according to ISNA.

President Ebrahim Raisi and other senior officials also attended rallies in Tehran where the crowds denounced Israel.

Seven members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, including two generals, were killed in the strike that destroyed the consular annex in Syria’s capital on Monday.

Brigadier generals from the Quds Force’s foreign operations division, Mohammed Hadi Haji Rahimi and Mohammad Reza Zahedi were killed in the strike. According to reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Zahedi served as the Quds Force commander for Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon.

Khamenei has vowed Israel “will face consequences” for the deaths.

Israel has remained silent regarding the strike.
