Former Iraqi PM Allawi offers to mediate between KDP, PUK

Former Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said issues between Erbil and Baghdad should be resolved through dialogue and he offered to mediate in disagreements between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

“We are in favor of continuous dialogue between Kurds and Arabs, Baghdad and Erbil,” Allawi told a number of media outlets, including Channel8.

“For your information, I will mediate between the two main parties in Kurdistan,” he said. “The issues will be resolved with respect for the Kurds and their sovereignty.”

“The role of the Kurds in their revolution against the dictatorial system in Iraq must be taken into account,” he added.
