Iraqi President, PUK President hold talks on political, security cooperation

Iraqi President Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received Patriotic Union of Kurdistan President Bafel Jalal Talabani to discuss various aspects of the political, security, and economic landscape in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

During the productive discussions, President Rashid emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue between the federal government and the regional government to address outstanding issues for the benefit of all Iraqis.

President Rashid commended the efforts made to resolve issues such as staff salary allocations in the Kurdistan region and the agreement on oil exports, highlighting the positive impacts on political, economic, and social stability in the country.

In response, PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani reiterated the paramount importance of prioritizing the welfare of Iraqi citizens above political interests.

He underscored the significance of enhancing cooperation between federal and regional government institutions to ensure the effective implementation of government programs for citizen service delivery.

The Iraqi President stressed the necessity of transparent and inclusive elections in the Kurdistan region, with the participation of all political parties, to uphold democracy and reflect the desires of the Kurdish population in selecting their representatives.

Talabani affirmed the ongoing efforts of the PUK to address outstanding issues between the federal and regional governments, safeguarding the rights of the Kurdish people within the framework of the Constitution and relevant laws.

Talabani expressed full support for the upcoming regional elections, emphasizing the participation of diverse Kurdish political forces and their right to engage in the electoral process.
