Kurdish language teacher sentenced to 11 years in prison for “disrupting public security”

Soma PourMohammadi, a Kurdish language teacher and board member of the Nozhin Organization, has been handed an 11-year prison sentence by the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj and subsequently transferred to Kermanshah.

This decision comes after Branch 106 of the Criminal Court in Sanaa also sentenced PourMohammadi to a separate one-year prison term for charges related to “disrupting public security.”

The 35-year-old educator was initially arrested on December 18, 2022, while attending court proceedings regarding her husband, Idris Minbari.

Following 27 days in detention, she was granted temporary release upon posting bail of 1 billion Iranian Rials. The final court hearing for PourMohammadi took place on April 18, culminating in the total 11-year prison sentence.
