Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi has clarified that Abdullah Ocalan’s latest message is directed at the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and does not pertain to the SDF or its operations in Syria.
“We emphasize that Ocalan’s message concerns the PKK and has nothing to do with us in Syria,” Abdi stated.
He further revealed that Ocalan had previously informed them about the content of his message, which he described as “positive, emphasizing peace and stability in the region, calling for an end to war and the initiation of a political process inside Turkey.”
Abdi also pointed to the potential impact of a peace settlement in Turkey, stating:
“If peace is achieved in Turkey, there will be no justification for Turkey’s attacks on us in Syria.”
His remarks come amid heightened discussions on the future of the Kurdish movement, following Ocalan’s call for the PKK to lay down arms and dissolve. The SDF, which operates primarily in northeastern Syria, has long sought to distance itself from the PKK, particularly in the context of ongoing tensions with Turkey.
