Three Kurdish writers have been arrested by Turkish security forces on charges of promoting "ideology" through a Kurdish language textbook, with the DEM Party stating that the arrests undermine peace efforts.

The authors of the book Hinker (meaning 'teacher')—Mevlut Aykoc, Sami Tan, and Ronayi Onen—were detained in connection with a case opened by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The prosecutor's office stated that the authors were arrested due to the book containing materials related to "organizational ideology." The case claims the PKK used the book to teach its members Kurdish language.

Sami Tan, one of the authors, emphasized that their sole intention was to teach Kurdish.

The People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) remarked that while Turkey enters a new phase with Ocalan's statement, these unlawful and undemocratic attacks on Kurdish language advocates are unacceptable. DEM also demanded an immediate halt to these campaigns against peace and the release of the writers.

Meanwhile, DEM Party Co-Chair Tulay Hatimogullari asserted that the arrests cast a shadow over hopes for peace and called for an end to such actions.

The Hinker book series, published between 2010 and 2012, is a set of three volumes aimed at teaching the Kurdish language. It has played a key role in helping many children and young people in North Kurdistan learn to read and write Kurdish.

One of the detainees, Sami Tan, is a well-known writer in North Kurdistan with numerous books on Kurdish language, literature, and culture.
