The municipality of Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy, on Monday presented Abdullah Ocalan's honorary citizenship to his brother, DEM Party MP Omer Ocalan.

Bologna had granted Ocalan honorary citizenship on March 17, joining 20 other Italian cities, including Palermo, Naples, and Fossalto, that have awarded the same honor to the imprisoned PKK leader.

During the ceremony, Bologna City Council President Maria Caterina Manca stated that the citizenship was not merely a symbolic gesture but also an expression of support for Ocalan's February 27 call.

Omer Ocalan highlighted Italy's backing for a political resolution to the Kurdish issue, saying, "We expect Italy and Europe to support the peace process in Turkey."
