Over 50 strikes reported across key governorates amid escalation; Kamaran Island emerges as strategic Houthi stronghold.

Hours after a series of intense overnight raids, U.S. warplanes renewed their offensive on Sunday, targeting Houthi military sites and infrastructure across multiple governorates in Yemen. The latest escalation brings the total number of U.S. strikes to over 50 within 24 hours, according to reports by Al Arabiya.

Eight of the latest strikes reportedly hit Houthi fortifications and missile launchers on Kamaran Island in the western governorate of Al Hudaydah. The island, the largest Yemeni landmass in the Red Sea, has become a focal point of U.S. air operations due to its strategic importance.

Additional U.S. airstrikes targeted Al Jawbah District, located south of Marib, while powerful explosions were reported in the southern outskirts of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.

Kamaran Island: A Strategic Target

Kamaran Island has increasingly drawn U.S. attention as intelligence suggests it serves as a forward military base for Houthi operations, including missile launches, naval mine deployment, and coordination of attacks on international shipping lanes in the Red Sea. The island also supports the defense of Salif and Ras Isa ports, key maritime hubs under Houthi control.

According to field sources, the island is believed to house a Houthi command center and missile launch facilities, making it a top target in recent air campaigns.

One of the Most Intense Strikes Since Mid-March

On Saturday night, U.S. fighter jets conducted what the Houthis described as more than 40 airstrikes across four Yemeni governorates. The bombardment is said to be one of the most intense since the U.S. began its military campaign in mid-March.

The strikes focused heavily on Sana’a and Hodeidah, with explosions reported in over ten locations throughout the capital and its eastern, western, and southern suburbs. Some of the targeted areas included military zones close to populated neighborhoods, raising concerns over collateral damage.

Nearly 1,000 U.S. Airstrikes Since March

According to statistics released by the Houthi group, the United States has carried out nearly 1,000 airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas in northern and western Yemen since mid-March. The campaign is part of a broader effort to deter Houthi attacks on international maritime trade and ensure the security of Red Sea shipping lanes.
