The Iraqi Ministry of Planning announced that the upcoming census, scheduled for November 20 this year, will encompass Kirkuk province and the Kurdistan Region, requiring a budget of 300 billion Iraqi dinars.
“The Ministry of Planning has finalized all arrangements for the general census set for November 20,” said Abdulzahra Handawi, spokesperson for the ministry.
The ministry spokesperson said that although 100 billion dinars were initially allocated for the census last year, achieving successful outcomes across all Iraqi provinces requires a budget of 300 billion dinars from the general budget.
He added that the census will comprehensively cover population demographics, including age, gender, housing, and institutions, to ensure accurate data collection on all fronts.
The last census conducted in Iraq took place in 1997, but the provinces of the Kurdistan Region were excluded from this census as they were outside the jurisdiction of the previous Iraqi government at that time.
The Iraqi Ministry of Planning estimates that the population of Iraq will surpass 43 million people by the end of 2024.
