No coordination with Ankara on PKK military operation: Iraqi commander
The deputy commander of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, Lieutenant General Qais al-Mohammadawi, said that there is no coordination with Ankara regarding the initiation of a military operation against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the country.
Al-Mohammadawi said that coordination with Ankara pertains solely to security, political, economic, and water resource matters.
The official said that Baghdad is committed to addressing Turkey's concerns regarding the presence of PKK fighters along the Iraqi borders and is actively working to apply the lessons learned from the security agreement with Iran to the border with Turkey.
He said that currently there are 20 checkpoints on the Iraqi-Turkish border.
Regarding the coalition forces in Iraq, Al-Mohammadawi said there are differing opinions on the withdrawal of the international coalition, but the government's stance is to conclude the mission of foreign troops in Iraq.
