Newly elected co-mayors take office in Diyarbakir
The co-mayors of Diyarbakir from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) who were successful in Turkey’s local elections last week have received their inauguration orders.
The inauguration ceremony for Sara Bucak and Dogan Hatun was held at the office of the High Electoral Commission in Diyarbakir in the presence of DEM Party officials and MPs.
The co-chairs of Baglar, Kayapnar, Sur, and Yenisehir received their inauguration orders and all co-chairs walked to the Diyarbakir Mayor’s Office after meeting with voters in Dagkapi Square.
Voters welcomed Bucak and Hatun with flowers at the end of the march to the municipal building.
The co-mayors delivered a speech in front of the Diyarbakir Mayor’s Office before entering the building.
According to unofficial preliminary results, the DEM Party candidates won 64.09 percent of the vote, or 460,022 votes, followed by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) candidate Mehmet Halis Bilden, who received 16.83 percent of the vote.
