The 26th Arabian Gulf Cup begins Saturday in Kuwait, with the host nation and ten-time champions facing Oman at the Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City.

The highly anticipated tournament brings together eight nations competing for regional football glory.

The defending champions, Iraq, arrived in Kuwait on Friday, ready to retain their title. "We are here to defend our championship and showcase the strength of Iraqi football," said a team representative upon arrival.

The tournament’s eight teams are divided into two groups: Group A features the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar, while Group B includes Iraq, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Iraq will begin their campaign against Yemen on December 22 at 5:25 PM (Iraq time), followed by matches against Bahrain on December 25 at 8:30 PM and Saudi Arabia on December 28 at 5:30 PM.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on December 31, culminating in the final set for January 6. The Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation, which comprises member states Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Yemen, organizes the event.

The last Gulf Cup, held in Basra, Iraq, was a historic moment for the nation. "Winning the cup on home soil was a dream come true," an Iraqi player recalled. It marked Iraq’s first time hosting the tournament in over 44 years, adding an emotional victory to the competition's legacy.
