Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended its membership in the BRICS group of nations, citing shifting dynamics in the Middle East and the ongoing Israeli war, according to the Kremlin, as reported by Interfax news agency.

In October 2024, Saudi Arabia participated in the 16th BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia, where the delegation was led by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

BRICS, an economic alliance focused on trade and financial cooperation, comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Iran, the UAE, and Ethiopia. The group emphasizes trading in national currencies to reduce dependency on the US dollar.

Global media outlets have linked Saudi Arabia’s decision to growing regional shifts and its evolving stance on power dynamics with the United States. The suspension highlights the kingdom's response to both regional tensions and broader geopolitical challenges.
