Iraq and Egypt have reinforced their strategic partnership with the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) across various sectors. 

The agreements were formalized during the third session of the Iraq-Egypt Joint Higher Committee, chaired by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani and his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly in Baghdad.

Strengthening Economic and Strategic Ties

During the high-level meeting, Iraq’s Minister of Trade, Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairi, and Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, provided an overview of the expanding collaboration between the two nations. Their discussions covered trade, transport, culture, finance, infrastructure, and technology.

Key Memorandums of Understanding Signed

The two countries signed a total of 12 MoUs, reinforcing their cooperation across economic, cultural, and regulatory sectors. These include:

1- Land Transport Agreement – Enhancing the movement of passengers and goods between Iraq’s and Egypt’s Ministries of Transport.

2- Competition & Anti-Monopoly Cooperation – Strengthening fair market practices between 

Iraq’s Competition and Antitrust Affairs Council and Egypt’s Competition Protection Authority.

3- Local Development Cooperation Protocol – Improving governance and municipal services.

4- Baghdad-Cairo Municipal Collaboration – Strengthening cooperation between Baghdad Municipality and Cairo Governorate.

5- Antiquities & Museum Cooperation – Facilitating the exchange of expertise between Iraq’s State Board of Antiquities and Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.

6- Standardization & Quality Control – Aligning regulatory standards between the two countries.

7- Financial Market Regulation – Enhancing oversight mechanisms in financial markets.

8- Cultural Cooperation (2025–2027) – A three-year executive program fostering cultural exchange.

9- Library & Archival Collaboration – Strengthening ties between national libraries.

10- Telecommunications & IT Partnership – Boosting regulatory and technological coordination.

11- Grain Silo Development – Supporting joint projects in grain storage and food security.

12- Trade & Commerce – Strengthening ties between the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce.

Commitment to a Stronger Partnership

The agreements signal a deepening of bilateral relations and a shared vision for economic development. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasized Egypt’s commitment to enhancing trade, investment, and infrastructure cooperation, while Prime Minister Al-Sudani highlighted Iraq’s strategic role in fostering regional economic partnerships.

This growing alliance is expected to pave the way for expanded economic collaboration and strengthen diplomatic ties between Baghdad and Cairo.
