The General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs at the Iraqi Interior Ministry announced the arrest of 1,559 drug traffickers in the first three months of this year, including 1,365 domestic and 194 international suspects.

Hussein Youssef al-Tamimi, spokesperson for the directorate, stated that its efforts extend beyond Iraq, engaging at the regional and international levels to combat drug trafficking.

A total of two tons and 156 kilograms of drugs were seized during this period, he said.

Al-Tamimi added that measures will be further tightened to curb drug smuggling and disrupt supply chains using advanced technology.
