The Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced that 3,751 families have returned to Iraq from the al-Hol camp in northern and eastern Syria since 2021.

Ali Abbas, the ministry's spokesman, stated on Tuesday that 181 families were returned from the al-Hol camp between March 24 and 29, bringing the total number of families returned to 3,751, equating to 14,513 individuals.

"A deadline has been set for the return of another 4,700 people from al-Hol camp to Iraq," he said.

He further added that around 1,200 families, totaling 4,700 people, are currently residing in training centers. The ministry also noted that it would take four to six months to train and prepare the returnees from the al-Hol camp before they can be sent back to their home areas.

This development comes amid ongoing coordination between Iraq and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) to facilitate the return of Iraqi families from the al-Hol camp in al-Hasakah province, northeastern Syria.

The al-Hol camp, established by the Syrian Democratic Forces with assistance from the Global Coalition against ISIS in 2015, initially housed displaced people from Mosul and Anbar, Iraq, following the defeat of ISIS in 2017. Over time, the camp also became home to thousands of relatives of ISIS fighters.
