Duolingo, the popular language-learning app, is branching out with a new chess course, aiming to make the game accessible to users of all skill levels.

The course will soon launch in beta testing on iOS, with plans to expand to Android and other languages in the coming weeks.

According to a report by The Verge, the course will feature interactive puzzles, such as positioning a knight in an L-shape or executing a checkmate. Users will also be able to play mini-games and full matches against Oscar, a Duolingo character who will serve as a virtual chess coach.

“We wanted to make chess as accessible to everyone as possible,” said Edwin Budge, Duolingo’s product manager.

The course will cater to a wide range of players, from beginners to experienced users, allowing learners to start at their current level of knowledge.

Chess joins music and math as part of Duolingo’s growing set of non-language courses.

Monica Earle, Duolingo's public relations manager, confirmed that the chess course will roll out gradually. iOS users will gain broader access within four to six weeks, followed by Android support and multilingual options.
