Zeki Shingali, commander in the Sinjar Resistance Units (YBS), told Channel8 that the YBS was established within the Yazidi community during the ISIS attack on Sinjar and will continue its presence until the Yazidis achieve a system of self-governance within Iraq.

“YBS is a legal and accepted force in Iraq, and despite the reduction of threats, the Yazidi community still significantly needs a force to protect,” he said.

On the non-implementation of the Sinjar Agreement, Shingali stated, “The agreement was made without the participation of the will of the Yazidi community.”

“The Iraqi government should negotiate with the Autonomous Administration of Sinjar, not a force like the Kurdistan Democratic Party,” he added.

Regarding PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call for the dissolution of the party, the YBS commander said the call has had a direct impact on Sinjar, adding that it helped prevent Turkish attacks on Sinjar, Rojava, and the Kurdistan Region.
