The Iraqi Council of Ministers held a meeting on Tuesday without discussing the Kurdistan Region’s oil exports or the issue of salary payments.

An adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Channel8 that neither the prime minister nor any ministers addressed the salary issue, and talks regarding Kurdistan Regional Government oil exports were not presented.

However, a source within the Council of Ministers told Channel8 that prior to the meeting, some Kurdish ministers met with Prime Minister al-Sudani to discuss salary payments and the oil export issue in the Kurdistan Region.

The source added that the prime minister emphasized salary payments and ongoing discussions depend on an agreement over oil handover and compliance with Iraq’s budget law, with negotiations between the two sides still ongoing.

The Council of Ministers’ meeting coincides with a visit by the KRG delegation to Baghdad, where they have held several meetings with officials from SOMO, the Oil Ministry, and the Prime Minister’s Office over recent days.

The delegation recently met with the Iraqi Economic Council and the Oil Ministry, according to Channel8’s reporter citing multiple Iraqi sources, and is close to finalizing an agreement to deliver 280,000 barrels of oil from the Kurdistan Region.
