KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani in Erbil on Sunday, where both parties agreed that the salary issue should not be politicized and must be resolved promptly.

According to a statement from the KRG, they concurred that “the issue of salaries should not be mixed with any political problems and disputes,” highlighting that salaried employees in the Kurdistan Region should not bear the consequences of such conflicts.

The meeting highlighted the importance of addressing outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, particularly regarding salary payments and the financial entitlements of the region’s employees, noting that the people of Kurdistan “have been treated unfairly.”

KRG further stated, “Both sides stressed that the salary issue should be resolved as soon as possible and the financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region should be sent. In this regard, talks between the two governments continue to resolve the issue in the coming days.”

Respect for Iraq’s federal system and the constitutional rights of the Kurdistan Region was also emphasized.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Shakhawan Abdullah and MP Ziad al-Janabi, Chairman of the Integrity Committee of Parliament.
