Sanandaj Contributes 800,000 Tons as Iran Buys Over 7.6 Million Tons of Wheat from Farmers in Early Harvest
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Iran announced that, since the start of the wheat harvesting season until now, more than 7,633,000 tons of wheat have been purchased from 600,000 farmers across the country.
Saeed Rad, the Deputy Minister, stated, "Khuzestan province has sold one and a half million tons, Sanandaj 800,000 tons, Golestan more than 600,000 tons, and Fars and Kermanshah nearly 600,000 tons each."
He noted that these figures correspond to the first to fifth-ranking provinces in terms of wheat production.
The Deputy Minister added, "So far, 115 thousand billion tumans out of the total 157 thousand billion tumans allocated for wheat payments have been disbursed to farmers."
More than 40% of Iran's food resources are supplied by wheat. The total area dedicated to wheat cultivation in the country is six million hectares, including two million hectares of irrigated wheat and four million hectares of rain-fed wheat.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Iran's wheat production in 2024 reached 15 million tons, of which the government purchased 11,976,000 tons directly from farmers.
