KRG Education Ministry Expands Use of AI in Schools, Plans Full Implementation in the Future
The spokesperson of the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Education announced that, for this academic year, 50 schools across provinces and districts will begin using artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and in the future, efforts will be made to extend this initiative to all schools.
Saman Siwaili, spokesperson of the Ministry of Education of the Kurdistan Region Government, stated today, Monday, in an interview with Channel8, that artificial intelligence will be a great support for teachers and students, describing it as an “achievement” of the ministry. He added: “The ministry is working to develop a platform for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades of primary school within the next six months.”
On August 24, the third Education Conference was held with the participation of 500 educators, teachers, experts, and international organizations, organized by the Ministry of Education. One of the main recommendations of the conference was to expand the use of artificial intelligence in educational institutions.
Siwaili also explained that a platform called My School was launched by the Minister of Education, which already includes the full curriculum for grades 1, 2, and 3 of primary school. The platform features an AI system named Zana, which was designed to assist with education.
He added: “Each student has their own username and account, through which they can ask the AI any question related to their subjects within the program. The system then provides answers, and within classrooms, it also acts as a supportive teacher.”
