Iraq and Iran are preparing to open a new border crossing in the coming months as part of efforts to expand economic and trade relations between the two neighboring countries.

Located between Ilam and Maysan provinces

According to Iranian media, the new crossing will link the town of Dehloran in Iran’s Ilam province with Maysan province in southern Iraq. It will become the seventh official border crossing between the two countries.

Infrastructure completed on the Iranian side

Asadollah Jaraghi, who has represented Ilam in the Iranian parliament, said that infrastructure on the Iranian side has already been completed, including access roads, customs facilities, and border guard posts.

Awaiting approval from Baghdad

Jaraghi added that the Iraqi side has formally requested Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to include the border gate’s opening on the Iraqi government’s agenda to allow its implementation.

Seventh official crossing

Once operational, the new crossing will join the six existing official border points between Iraq and Iran: Bashmakh, Parvizkhan, Haji Omeran, Mehran, Khosravi, and Shalamcha.
