Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled Gaza plan would secure the release of hostages held by Hamas and fulfill Israel’s stated war objectives.

Speaking after returning from Washington, Netanyahu said

The White House released details of the 20-point plan late Monday, calling for an immediate ceasefire if both sides agree, the demilitarization of Gaza, and administration of the enclave by a Palestinian committee with international experts – explicitly excluding Hamas from governance.

Divisions in Israel

Netanyahu’s remarks came as Israeli media reported divisions within his government over Trump’s proposal. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority said Netanyahu had assured far-right ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir that the Palestinian Authority would not be given control of Gaza.

Hamas Response Pending

A Hamas official told Reuters the movement would need several days to study the plan. Trump, however, set a four-day deadline, warning that if Hamas rejected the proposal it would face “hell and a grim fate.”

Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon echoed that warning, saying rejection of the US plan would mean Israel would “end the mission and recover the hostages” through military escalation.

Backdrop

The plan also includes provisions for an eventual economic zone in Gaza, which Trump described as the ultimate goal for ensuring stability.

The initiative comes amid heavy pressure on all parties: Israel, which continues its war in Gaza; Hamas, under growing international isolation; and the Trump administration, seeking to present the plan as a breakthrough in Middle East diplomacy.
