Iran Reports Over 11 Million Cross-Border Tourists Between Iraq and Iran in the Past Year

Iran’s Tourism Authority has released statistics on cross-border tourism between Iraq and Iran for the past year, revealing a total of 11.4 million travelers.

  • Iraqi tourists to Iran: 3.4 million
  • Iranian tourists to Iraq: Nearly 8 million

Statement from Iranian Official
Moslem Shojaei, Director of Iran’s International Tourism Development, announced during the first joint tourism event between the two countries held in Basra:

“Iraq is a key tourism market for Iran, and this market deserves attention and strategic focus in the future.”

 Tourism Opportunities
Shojaei highlighted that the shared border of 1,485 kilometers presents a major opportunity for tourism companies to coordinate and invest across various sectors, especially in:

  • Religious tourism
  • Health tourism
  • Leisure and recreation
  • Shopping and culinary experiences
