Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha said foreign companies have begun to return to work and invest in the city, following nearly a decade of stagnation and security concerns.

Taha told the Iraqi newspaper al-Sabah that they have facilitated the work for the companies and will resume several strategic projects.

He noted that some accredited foreign companies have resumed operations, especially after signing new contracts to develop oil and gas fields.

The governor stressed that this return will give new impetus to the energy sector, increase the province's revenue, and provide job opportunities for citizens.

Major Infrastructure Developments Planned

Taha stated that several important projects will be implemented by these companies, including the construction of a 400 MW power plant, a petrochemical plant to supply domestic products and reduce imports, and a new investment refinery with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in petroleum products.

Investment Supports Social Services

He further revealed that foreign companies have allocated about $1 million annually to support social services, adding the amount will be used to develop the education, health, and infrastructure sectors.
