IHEC: Over Half of Registered Voters Receive New Voting Cards Across Iraq
The Iraqi High Election Commission (IHEC) announced new data on the distribution of biometric voting cards across the country, confirming that more than half of registered voters have now received their cards ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.
According to the Commission’s latest report, covering the period between September 23 and October 23, 62.5 percent of the printed cards have been distributed, while 54.2 percent of all registered citizens have collected their new cards.
Nationwide Distribution Statistics
The IHEC’s official figures show the following totals:
- Total registered voters: 3,508,704
- Total printed cards (Batch 1 and 2): 3,107,988
- Cards distributed: 1,942,050
- Distribution rate (of printed cards): 62.5 percent
- Overall distribution rate (of total registrants): 54.2 percent
The Commission noted that 1,165,938 cards have been printed but not yet distributed, and an additional 475,716 cards are still in the printing phase.
IHEC Continues Preparations for Upcoming Elections
In order to guarantee that all eligible voters receive their cards prior to election day, IHEC officials stated that efforts are being made to expedite the card distribution process. The Commission warned that those who do not visit their nearest registration facilities to pick up their cards in person will not be permitted to vote. The Commission called for citizens who registered or updated their biometric information in 2024 and 2025 to do so.
The latest update is part of IHEC’s broader effort to enhance transparency and streamline the electoral process through biometric verification, a system introduced to prevent fraud and duplication in Iraq’s elections.
