Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that Iraq and Turkey are engaged in ongoing talks regarding the presence of Turkish troops in the country.

Hussein told Channel8 that “Iraq is in talks with Turkey, and relations between the two countries are very good.”

Turkish Parliament Extends Military Operations

The Turkish Parliament approved the request of the presidency on November 22 to extend the deadline for the Turkish army's operations.

The decision allows the army to conduct operations in West Kurdistan (Rojava), the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Syria for another three years.

A day before the vote, Gulistan Kilic Kocyigit, deputy chair of the DEM Party’s Parliamentary Group, stated that the deadline for extending the operations was incompatible with the current peace process.

Peace Process Amid PKK Dissolution

The parliament authorized the extension process first on October 2, 2014, and the last time on October 30, 2023, the authorization was extended for two years.

The move comes as the peace process is underway for a year, and The PKK decided to dissolve itself in May 2025 and end its armed struggle.

Responding to the call of Abdullah Ocalan, thirty members, including party leaders, laid down and burned their weapons during a ceremony at Jasana Cave near Sulaymaniyah on July 11.

The National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Committee was formed in August in the framework of the peace process to lay the legal foundation for the peace process and has held 15 meetings so far.
