Iraq Launches Uruk Car Factory With Tesla and SpaceX Partnership
Iraq marked a milestone in its industrial history with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Uruk automobile manufacturing plant, the country’s first national car factory.
The project hailed as one of the largest industrial initiatives in Iraq’s history, will be powered by cutting-edge Tesla lithium battery technology and feature SpaceX satellite internet services, bringing Iraq into the global era of intelligent mobility.
A Strategic Leap for Iraq’s Manufacturing Sector
The ceremony, held in Laylan, Kirkuk, was attended by provincial and company officials, including Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha, who described Uruk as “the most important factory in the city.” He added, “This project represents a major step forward for the economy of both Kirkuk and Iraq.”
According to Taha, the factory’s first production phase will manufacture around 1,000 vehicles annually, including electric, gasoline, and diesel cars, with plans to expand output in later phases.
Tesla Batteries and SpaceX Connectivity
Uruk’s representative Bayda Abdulsahib Anbar announced that the factory will build world-class Iraqi cars using the latest lithium battery technology produced by Tesla.
The vehicle will feature SpaceX’s satellite internet service, allowing users to stay connected anywhere in the world
Anbar said.
She confirmed that Elon Musk, founder and CEO of both Tesla and SpaceX, will attend the launch ceremony, emphasizing that “we are honored that the owner of both Tesla and SpaceX will be involved and a partner in this great project.”
Global Partnerships and Economic Impact
Governor Taha revealed that the United States, Germany, and Turkey are among the countries collaborating on the project, underscoring its international scope and technological sophistication.
We want Kirkuk cars to reach the world
Taha said, noting that the factory is expected to create thousands of jobs and make Kirkuk a strategic hub for industrial development.
A Vision for Modern Iraq
The Uruk Company described the initiative as a “historic step toward national manufacturing independence,” positioning the project as a cornerstone of Iraq’s economic diversification strategy. The plant will serve as both a symbol of industrial progress and a catalyst for innovation, merging Iraq’s local talent with global technology leaders.
With Tesla batteries, SpaceX connectivity, and international partnerships, Uruk aims to redefine Iraq’s place on the global manufacturing map—transforming Kirkuk into a hub of smart, sustainable, and connected mobility.
