Iraq's trade with China and the United States differs significantly. While China is considered Iraq's largest trading partner, the volume of trade with the United States is much smaller.

Trade With China Six Times Higher

Official data shows that Iraq's trade with China is roughly six times that with the United States. Although Iraq records a large trade deficit with China, it maintains a trade surplus with the United States.

Iraq–China Trade Relations: High Volume, Large Deficit

Trade between Iraq and China exceeded $54 billion in 2024.

Iraq imported $38.2 billion worth of goods from the country, mainly cars, mechanical, and electronic equipment, while its exports totaled $16 billion, primarily oil and oil products.

Iraq–U.S. Trade Relations: Lower Volume, Surplus for Iraq

In comparison, trade between Iraq and the United States stood at $9.2 billion last year.

Unlike its trade with China, the balance was in Iraq’s favor, with $7.5 billion in exports—mainly oil and oil products—and $1.7 billion in imports, mostly vehicles and medical equipment.
