Iraq’s Integrity Commission Reveals Thousands of Corruption Cases and Recovers Billions for State Treasury
According to the semi-annual report released this year, Iraq's Federal Commission of Integrity disclosed the number of individuals whose cases were filed under the Public Amnesty Law, while also unveiling its new five-year plan in cooperation with the United Nations.
Beneficiaries of Public Amnesty
Based on the commission’s statistics, the law has had a significant impact on the number of defendants and cases:
- Defendants: 9,275 individuals have been prosecuted under the Public Amnesty Law.
- Cases: The total number of files exceeds 22,000.
Recovered Funds
As a result of investigations into corruption cases, monitoring officials, and safeguarding public assets, the commission succeeded in returning 1 billion and 597 million Iraqi dinars to the state treasury.
Five-Year Future Plan
The Integrity Commission has completed the first draft of the “National Strategy for Combating Corruption” covering the years 2025 to 2030.
This plan was developed in cooperation with several international entities, including:
- The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
- The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
Coordination Goals
The commission emphasized that working with international partners is crucial for transferring global expertise in institutional oversight and finding effective mechanisms to recover stolen public funds.
