Senior negotiating delegations from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) met on Tuesday in Pirmam to continue talks on forming the next Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet, but failed to make progress, according to a senior KDP source.

The source said the meeting ended without any agreement and that no date was set for a follow-up session.

No Progress on Government Formation

According to the source, the two sides remain divided over key issues related to the formation of the new KRG cabinet. The PUK has reiterated its pre-election demands, particularly regarding the distribution of senior posts, with a specific focus on the Ministry of Interior.

The KDP, for its part, has shown no flexibility toward the PUK’s conditions, the source said, leaving the talks at an impasse.

Disagreements Extend to Baghdad File

The meeting also failed to produce an understanding on coordination with Baghdad, including how Kurdish parties should approach federal positions and unresolved disputes between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi federal government.

No agreement was reached on how to proceed with talks in Baghdad or on the distribution of federal posts

the source added.

Talks End Inconclusively

The senior KDP source confirmed that the meeting concluded without results, and that discussions over the formation of the next KRG cabinet remain stalled amid ongoing political disagreements between the two main Kurdish parties.
