Internal Security Forces in Aleppo Deny Ceasefire Announcement: ‘We Are Sacrificing Ourselves'
The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in Aleppo stated that the Syrian army's claims of a ceasefire are "entirely false," and they continue to defend the Kurdish neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo, holding Damascus responsible for the crimes committed in the area.
Asayish said in a statement on Saturday that "the Syrian army and its affiliated factions persist in shelling the civilian population and Khaled Fajr Hospital, where a large number of wounded are in critical conditions."
“At the same time, these parties issue their misleading statements, our forces repelled a violent attack launched by the militias on the western sector of the neighborhood,” Asayish added.
Asayish emphasized that the claims reveal the “true criminal nature of the Damascus government and armed factions, which have long used misinformation to cover their crimes, repeating their tactics from coastal regions and Sweida, including shelling and targeting civilians and infrastructure.”
Asayish Defends Presence Amid Clashes with Damascus Forces
The clashes between Asayish of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and Damascus government forces have continued since last Tuesday. Damascus claimed that the forces securing the Kurdish areas were the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and called for their withdrawal.
In separate statements, the government also said that the forces involved were “remnants” of the former regime and members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
However, Asayish clarified that their forces are in the neighborhood to protect the lives of civilians in accordance with the previous agreement with Syrian authorities, dismissing Damascus’s claims as baseless and a “cheap attempt” aimed at “distorting” the facts.
