PUK Spokesperson: KDP Meeting Was 'Very Positive' Despite No Agreement; Emphasizes Organizational Changes
Karwan Gaznay, spokesman of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), stated that the last meeting with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) was “very positive”; however, no agreement has been reached, adding that the PUK is making changes in its organization to adapt to the current phase.
The PUK’s Leadership Council convened on Saturday, chaired by President Bafel Jalal Talabani, during which several important issues were discussed, including the formation of the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government.
PUK to Implement Organizational Reforms
Following the meeting, Gaznay briefed a press conference today and noted that the PUK plans to initiate reforms within its organizational structures following the Iraqi parliamentary elections.
PUK considers it “a priority to be always renewed,” he emphasized.
The spokesman stressed that PUK, under the leadership of Talabani, has been able to take great steps in renewal and building good relations in the interest of the people of the Kurdistan Region and wants to bring these changes into the organs.
Changes Aim to Address Current Conditions
The aims of the changes, according to him, are to adapt to the current political, economic, security, and social conditions and to reorganize the organs.
KDP-PUK Talks on Cabinets and Presidency
Regarding the last meeting between PUK and KDP held last week, in which the formation of a Kurdish and Iraqi cabinet along with the Iraqi presidential post was addressed, the spokesman highlighted that the talk was "important"; however, the parties did not reach an agreement.
Gaznay said that the priority of both parties is “to protect the Kurdistan Region, which is the most important point.”
“We are trying to find good and appropriate solutions,” he added.
