Germany Supports Iraq’s Neutrality in War, Foreign Ministry Tells Channel8
The German Foreign Ministry told Channel8 it supports Iraq’s efforts to remain neutral amid the escalating regional conflict, warning that any further expansion of the war could seriously threaten regional stability.
Berlin said the Iraqi government is making significant efforts to keep the country from being drawn into the ongoing conflict. According to the German Foreign Ministry, Baghdad is also working to influence domestic armed groups to ensure they do not become involved in the war.
Germany said it fully supports these efforts by the Iraqi government to maintain stability and prevent Iraq from becoming part of the broader confrontation.
The ministry also warned that the involvement of any new state, group or individual in the conflict would further endanger the region’s fragile stability.
According to the response provided to Channel8, such developments could undermine the progress Iraq has achieved in recent years in restoring security and stability after years of conflict.
Germany stressed that any further escalation would be extremely dangerous, reiterating its opposition to attempts to widen the conflict and urging all parties to exercise restraint.
Berlin called on regional and international actors to avoid actions that could deepen tensions and push the region toward further instability.
