Iranian Artist Hamid Hiraad Passes Away at 34
Hamid Hiraad, a prominent Iranian pop singer and composer widely known for blending traditional Persian music with modern pop sounds, has died from cancer in Tehran at the age of 34.
Hiraad, whose real name was Hamid Hosseinzadeh, was considered one of the most successful contemporary pop artists in Iran.
He gained widespread popularity for his distinctive musical style, which combined elements of classical Persian and Sufi-influenced singing with modern electronic and pop production.
Hiraad’s Music and Cultural Bond with Kurdish Fans
Over the years, Hiraad built a strong fan base not only in Iran but also across the Kurdistan Region, as he visited several times to perform concerts, most notably in Sulaymaniyah, where he attracted large audiences.
His music was particularly popular among Kurdish listeners, partly due to his appreciation of regional musical traditions.
Among the songs that resonated with Kurdish audiences was “Shirina Xanm,” which incorporates musical elements and rhythms familiar to Kurdish listeners.
In several music videos and performances, Hiraad also wore traditional-style clothing inspired by regional cultures, further strengthening his cultural connection with fans in the Kurdistan Region, including Erbil.
Hiraad: A Pioneering Fusion Artist and Cultural Bridge
Born in 1992, Hiraad began studying music early, mastering the Persian ney and writing poetry by age 15. His stage name, meaning "joyful and healthy," reflected his vibrant personality.
He was a pioneer of a fusion style that blended Sufi-inspired vocals and traditional instruments with modern electronic and pop sounds, resonating with both cultural audiences and modern music fans.
Diagnosed with leukemia in 2018, Hiraad continued performing and releasing music despite his illness, earning admiration for his resilience. His death represents a significant loss to Iranian pop music, as he was a key figure in bridging cultural divides across the region.
