The deployment of Syrian government forces in villages surrounding Kobani has raised concerns among local residents, disrupting daily life in the area, according to the Channel8 correspondent.

Over the past five days, tensions have escalated in Kobani, following an incident during a Newroz celebration in which a Kurdish youth lowered the Syrian flag.

The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) arrested the individual to avoid escalation, adding that such actions “in no way represent any official side, party, or institution.”

This has led to increased friction between various groups in Rojava, extending to southern Kobani and nearby regions such as Sheikh Laran.

Military Presence Along M4 and Border Villages

Syrian government forces have been stationed along the M4 highway and in several border villages, including Chelebi, Girk, and Goktepe.

Their presence has caused anxiety among residents, many of whom report restrictions on their movement and express fears for their safety.

Some locals are calling for the withdrawal of forces from the border areas and are urging all parties to work towards restoring stability so they can resume normal life.

Recent Political Agreements

This military deployment comes amid recent developments, notably an agreement signed in late January between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian government.

The accord outlined plans to integrate civilian and military institutions of the autonomous administration with those of the central government in Damascus. However, the current movement of forces appears to contradict the terms of this agreement.
