Netanyahu: Israel To “Further Expand” Security Zone In Lebanon

He insisted Israel had "acted alone" in striking Iran's massive South Pars gas field, while confirming that the US president had asked Israeli forces to "hold off" on such attacks moving forward. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday he had ordered the military to expand a security zone in Lebanon as Israel continues its operations across the border.

“In Lebanon, I have just ordered the military to further expand the existing security zone,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.

He said the move was aimed at preventing cross-border attacks by Hezbollah and reducing the threat of anti-tank missile fire near Israel’s northern border.

“This is intended to definitively neutralize the threat of invasion and to keep anti-tank missile fire away from the border,” Netanyahu said.

Israel has carried out repeated strikes in Lebanon amid ongoing hostilities with Hezbollah, raising concerns about further escalation along the frontier.
