Talabani Emphasizes PUK's Right to Hold Iraqi Presidency for 'Balance'
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), expressed gratitude to Fuad Hussein, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) nominee for the Iraqi presidency, stressing that it would be "more appropriate" for the PUK to hold this position in order to maintain "balance."
After months of political deadlock over the position, the Iraqi parliament convened on Saturday as the session reached a legal quorum.
The PUK nominee Nizar Amedi secured the majority of votes during both rounds of the presidential race, making him the next president of the country.
