A severe traffic accident in Kirkuk resulted in the deaths of 7 individuals and injuries to approximately 24 others, according to a Channel8 correspondent.

The incident occurred on a busy road and street on Sunday, with surveillance footage capturing a truck losing control and colliding with multiple vehicles.

The crash caused extensive material damage, with several vehicles reduced to wreckage. The accident notably involved a vehicle carrying a newlywed couple.

The Governor of Kirkuk has declared a one-day period of official mourning across the province following the accident.

According to the statistics, since the beginning of this year, nearly 40 residents in the city have lost their lives in traffic accidents.

Witnesses Attribute Kirkuk Truck Crash to Brake Failure

A witness at the scene told Channel8 that the truck’s loss of control was due to a brake failure. Another eyewitness reported that the out-of-control truck struck approximately 40 vehicles during the severe incident.

Health Minister: All Hospitals Ready to Treat Victims

Saman Barzanj, the Minister of Health, announced that all hospitals are prepared to receive the injured from the incident in Kirkuk. They are ready to perform surgeries, deploy emergency medical teams, and supply blood, medicines, medical supplies, and equipment as needed.

“While we mourn the loss of many dear citizens of Kirkuk, we wish for the safety and recovery of the injured,” he added.

Sulaymaniyah Health Confirms Readiness to Support Victims

Meanwhile, speaking to Channel8, Saman Sheikh Latif, spokesperson for the Sulaymaniyah Health Directorate, noted that “All our hospitals are open to the victims of the Kirkuk traffic accident.”

Latif emphasized that they are prepared to offer all necessary assistance to support the health and well-being of the victims.
