Iraqi Health Ministry Records 48 Hemorrhagic Fever Cases and Four Deaths
The Iraqi Ministry of Health has released the latest figures on hemorrhagic fever infections and deaths, while warning animal herders and butchers to follow preventive guidelines to limit the spread of the disease.
Infection and Death Statistics
Saif al-Badr, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, stated that from the beginning of this year through April, 48 cases of hemorrhagic fever were recorded, including four deaths. The figure is lower compared to last year, when Iraq recorded 296 infections and 42 deaths from the disease in 2025.
Causes of Transmission
The Ministry of Health stressed the importance of controlling rodents and parasites, which are considered the main source of transmitting hemorrhagic fever from animals to humans.
The ministry called for necessary measures to eliminate rodents that spread the disease among animals and pass it on to people.
Awareness Campaigns Ahead of Eid al-Adha
As the Eid al-Adha holiday approaches, the Ministry of Health has launched a campaign in coordination with relevant authorities to monitor the situation and distribute health guidelines.
The campaign aims to reduce the risk of the disease spreading during the increased handling and slaughter of animals throughout the holiday period.
Preventive Guidelines for Different Sectors
The Ministry of Health has issued a set of guidelines for livestock breeders and butchers on how to properly handle animals and meat products.
Additional instructions were also provided for chefs and restaurant owners on preparing meat in a scientific and hygienic manner to reduce the risk of contracting hemorrhagic fever.
