With the arrival of summer and the upcoming Eid al-Adha, slaughterhouses in Sulaymaniyah Governorate have intensified their preparations and safety measures to confront the threat of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF).

Risks of Infections and Transmission
Dr. Tariq Ali, veterinary doctor and deputy director of the Sulaymaniyah slaughterhouse, told Channel8, “With rising temperatures, insects spread more among animals. This is the main cause of diseases such as Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, jaundice, and other contagious illnesses that can transfer from animals to humans.”

He stressed that protective measures have been strengthened to reduce these risks.

Importance of Slaughtering in Official Facilities
At the end of his remarks, Dr. Ali urged citizens through Channel8 to ensure that sacrificial animals are slaughtered only in official slaughterhouses, “Slaughtering animals outside slaughterhouses or on the streets is unhealthy and leads to the spread of harmful bacteria.”
