Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Iran is working on a new mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz while emphasizing that the United States’ presence in the region contributes to instability.

Strait of Hormuz Transit Mechanism

Baghaei announced during a press conference on May 18 that Iran’s engagement with Oman is ongoing to develop a new mechanism for transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

He stressed that Iran is committed to safeguarding its nuclear rights and will not compromise on uranium enrichment under any circumstances.

Regional Security and U.S. Presence

Baghaei warned regional countries that the presence of the United States does not enhance security but instead creates instability and threatens prosperity.

He described the U.S. and Israel as primary sources of threat and called on neighboring countries to pursue a regional security framework based on cooperation and mutual trust to counter external interference.

Legal Action Over U.S. Conduct

Baghaei stated that Iran is continuing legal proceedings against the United States. He explained that the initial step involved documenting actions taken during the early hours of the war.

This documentation covers both earlier conflicts and the recent war, forming the basis for international legal action.

Complaint Filed Against Washington

Baghaei revealed that shortly before the recent war, Iran filed a complaint with the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal against Washington.

He said the case concerns U.S. interference in Iran’s internal affairs and the imposition of sanctions, adding that the complaint has been formally registered and is being actively pursued.
