Ebola Cases Surge Past 900 in Congo as WHO Warns of Rising Risk
The number of suspected Ebola virus cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has exceeded 900, while the World Health Organization (WHO) warns of a continued risk of spread.
Rising Infections and Death Toll Reported
Congolese officials have confirmed that suspected Ebola cases have surpassed 900. The country’s Ministry of Communication and Media announced on the platform “X” that 904 suspected cases and 119 deaths have been recorded to date.
This marks an increase from previous figures, which had placed suspected cases at around 700, indicating that infections continue to rise.
WHO Warning and National Emergency Declaration
WHO has warned that the health situation in Congo has reached a critical level.
Although the risk of international spread is still described as “low,” Congolese authorities have declared a state of emergency. Health facilities are now facing major challenges in containing the rapid spread of the virus.
Conflict and Attacks Worsen Health Response
Alongside the outbreak, ongoing tensions and armed conflicts in Congo have further complicated the situation.
In recent weeks, several health facilities treating Ebola patients have been attacked, making it increasingly difficult for medical teams to respond effectively and control the outbreak.
