Turkey Aims to Boost Iraq Trade to $30 Billion
Anil Bora Inan, the Turkish ambassador to Iraq, stated that his country is working to raise the level of bilateral trade with Iraq to around $30 billion annually.
Turkey’s Role in Iraq’s Economy
Inan said in remarks to Iraqi official media that Turkey plays an important role in supporting Iraq’s economic sector and is working to further strengthen it.
He added that in 2025, Turkish exports to Iraq exceeded $12 billion, and efforts are underway to increase that figure to $30 billion in the future.
He also noted that Iraq is Turkey’s fifth-largest export destination and that it holds the third-largest real estate market for Turkish investors.
Water Cooperation and Shared Responsibility
On the issue of water release, the ambassador said the matter is a key area of coordination between the two countries. He stressed that the use of transboundary water resources is a shared responsibility between upstream and downstream states.
He added that Turkey will provide cooperation to Iraq through a joint committee aimed at improving water infrastructure.
Return of Turkish ISIS Members from Iraq
Regarding the repatriation of Turkish nationals affiliated with ISIS from Iraq, Inan clarified that 166 Turkish citizens who had been detained in Iraq will soon be transferred back to Turkey.
He also called on other countries to take similar steps regarding their own citizens.
