Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued a sweeping call for a unified pan-Kurdish national front, stressing that political alignment among the world's 50 million Kurds would force global powers to recognize their national aspirations. He announced that the party will sign a “strategic agreement” with the New Generation Movement in the coming days.

During the PUK anniversary speech on Monday, Talabani noted that the party's history of struggle and sacrifice is "golden," adding, "a history that inspires envy, a history that no party can claim."

“We have a golden history, but our future must be brighter. This is our goal as the leadership of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan,” he emphasized.

He highlighted the party's regional and international diplomatic influence, stating that global powers and neighboring countries trust the PUK to resolve complex political challenges. “We have managed to stabilize Baghdad, comrades.”

Talabani Urges Global Kurdish Unity

Talabani called for a unified pan-Kurdish national front to align policies across all four parts of Kurdistan, stating it is the path to achieving the long-held aspirations of the world's 50 million Kurds.

He underlined that all kurdish factions need “to unite all factions that represent 50 million Kurds; there is no force in the world that can say no to us. “

“When, with a single call, you could be able to take one million people to the streets in Europe, the major powers will no longer dare to ignore the Kurds and Kurdistan,” he added.

New Government Program and Alliance Initiatives

In his address, the PUK President also discussed the ongoing political deadlock in the Kurdistan Region, which has remained without a functioning government and parliament for nearly 19 months following the legislative elections.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the New Generation Movement convened high-level discussions earlier this year to establish a unified parliamentary bloc aimed at recalibrating the political power balance in Kurdistan.

Talabani stated that he intends “to release a message in the coming days to present the PUK’s program for the next four years and the cabinet they say is in the works.”

He mentioned that with the New Generation Movement, both sides “have been able to stabilize Sulaymaniyah.”

“But this is not enough, and following this, we have a project to extend our hand and reach a form of understanding with all political parties in Kurdistan,” he added.

‘We Demand Half of Government’

The PUK President further reiterated that a new cabinet of government will eventually take shape.

He said the party, acting on the recommendations of other political factions, is prepared to enter coalition negotiations strictly based on parliamentary seat counts, where their current 39-to-39 tie entitles them to an equal share of governance.
