Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced a proactive initiative to resolve ongoing energy disputes with Baghdad, revealing that a joint delegation of regional officials and international oil companies (IOCs) has been dispatched to the Iraqi capital to resume oil export negotiations.

Speaking on the initiative, Masrour Barzani emphasized that the joint visit was requested by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to demonstrate goodwill and take the lead in breaking the prolonged deadlock over the region's oil exports.

Push for Guarantees as Oil Talks Intensify

According to the Prime Minister, the delegation engaged in "serious and substantive" discussions with federal government officials in Baghdad. During the meetings, international oil firms demanded firm financial and legal guarantees before agreeing to restart oil production and export operations.

Barzani confirmed that the KRG firmly supports the companies' demands for guarantees, viewing them as a crucial step toward a sustainable resolution.

Further technicalities are scheduled for review early next week. "We are expecting several additional details to be discussed at the beginning of next week," Barzani stated, adding that the administration is eagerly awaiting the resumption of operations by the oil companies.

The Prime Minister expressed optimism that this coordinated move would resolve a significant portion of the ongoing disputes. He reiterated that the KRG remains fully committed to fulfilling its own obligations and playing a constructive role in the process.

Kurdistan Offers 2,000 MW of Electricity to Federal Grid

In a separate expansion of energy cooperation, Prime Minister Barzani highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s successful track record in power generation and its readiness to alleviate Iraq's chronic electricity shortages.

Barzani announced that the KRG has been actively working on infrastructure to export surplus electricity to the federal network. He officially stated that the Kurdistan Region is prepared to supply up to 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the Iraqi national grid to support the federal government.
