Israel Strikes Iranian Petrochemical Plant Amid Escalating Tensions
Iranian state media reported Monday that Israel carried out an airstrike on a petrochemical facility in southwestern Iran, intensifying hostilities just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump urged restraint.
Local outlets on Telegram claimed that “the Zionist enemy has carried out an air attack on the Karun Petrochemical Company in Mahshahr,” citing law enforcement officials who said Israeli projectiles hit the site.
The official IRNA news agency added that the special petrochemical economic zone hosting the company evacuated daytime employees following the strike.
Founded in 2002–2003, Karun Petrochemical Company is recognized as Iran’s first “knowledge-based” petrochemical enterprise. According to its website, the plant produces over 200,000 tonnes of petrochemical products annually.
The exchange of fire between Israel and Iran came shortly after President Trump publicly called on Israel to avoid retaliating against Tehran’s missile attacks.
