Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani joined Halabja Governor Nuxsha Nasih on Monday to inaugurate the new building for the Halabja Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Halabja Governorate announced in a statement on Monday that the new facility opened with wide participation from government and party officials, investors, and representatives from various chambers of commerce.

Deputy PM Minister Emphasizes Private Sector Support

Talabani extended “warm congratulations, expressed his support for the Chamber, and emphasized his backing of the private sector.”

The Deputy Prime Minister urged the provincial administration to actively cooperate with and support the private sector.

In response, the local administration pledged to provide full cooperation and facilitation to investors in an effort to stimulate the regional economy and improve services for the residents of the province.

Institutional Independence of the Halabja Chamber of Commerce

\Although the Halabja Chamber of Commerce was officially authorized in July 2019 following the city's initial promotion to a province, local businesses previously had to process all registrations and trade certifications through the Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce due to Halabja's prior status as a district.

The chamber achieved national legal status on February 29, 2024, when its formal admission into the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce in Baghdad completely separated its corporate identity from Sulaymaniyah.

Halabja's Official Provincial Recognition

Halabja was officially recognized as the fourth province of the Kurdistan Region in March 2014 by the Kurdistan Regional Government, followed by final federal approvals in 2025 to establish it as Iraq's 19th official province.
