Parliament Approves Partial Cabinet as Al-Zaidi Assumes Power

Following the certification of the 2025 general election results, the Iraqi Parliament formally approved a new federal cabinet on May 14, successfully concluding weeks of intense legislative negotiations.

The parliamentary vote officially ratified the appointment of Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi—who succeeded outgoing Prime Minister al-Sudani—confirming 14 of 22 ministerial portfolios.

A formal power transition ceremony was conducted at the Government Palace in Baghdad later that afternoon, marking a stable institutional transfer of authority as the al-Zaidi administration assumed full operational control of the state's executive portfolios.
